About Us

Katalina Filmworks

Katalina FilmWorks, based in Dana Point, California, was founded by Kathleen Torchia Travers and Calvin Ligh. The two principals came together to produce their first film, “All Were Forgotten… And Then Came John” starting in 2014. While in production, the two began to see the disconnect between everyday civilians and the veterans. Younger generations of Americans have less understanding of what these brave men and women have done. In order, to provide them the kind of freedom they take for granted. Kathleen and Calvin saw that the power of film and media can change this trend by presenting the veteran’s stories in bold, honest, and entertaining ways.

Founders
Kathleen Torchia Travers
Kathleen Torchia Travers (Executive Producer) has spent the majority of her life on the stage performing, producing, and directing opera and theatre. She trained opera singers for 25 years and fostered their careers by affording them performing opportunities, through her non-profit/501c(3) corporation, “Capitol Opera Companies, Inc.” Her creativity in theatre as a producer has been vital in her transition to film production.
Calvin Ligh
Calvin Ligh (Producer/Production Designer) has built a long career as a graphic designer/art director, working in print, video, film, multi-media and live business theater. An innovative problem solver, Calvin has created beautiful designs for a multitude of varied industries. A clever communicator, he has masterfully blended art and technology, understanding the science of design development with creative sensibilities.

When these two met in 2013, they developed a mutual respect for one another’s talents and experiences. That mutual respect converged when they agreed to make the documentary of her husband, John M Travers, a highly decorated Med-evac chopper pilot in the Vietnam War. With Kathleen’s creative production experience and Calvin’s eye for design, it was a natural, colaborative partnership, Katalina FilmWorks.

Veterans’ stories are told through the art of Documentary, Feature Films, and Broadcast Media. Katalina FilmWorks also provides hands-on production support for Veterans’ groups such as the VFW, the VVA, the American Legion, and more. Katalina FilmWorks uses Media Production Services, Design Services and Volunteer Participation to help those organizations which support the brave service men and women of America’s Armed Forces.

We Serve Veterans

At Katalina FilmWorks, WE SERVE VETERANS! Since “The Greatest Generation” set this country on a path to glory and decency, the offspring of that generation, led by misguided celebrities, initiated a downward spiral. That destroyed and continues to destroy America and those who serve her. There is no excuse for the way the Vietnam Veterans were treated. Shunned and vilified those poor Veterans spent their entire adult lives feeling unloved and unappreciated. Except for the love and camaraderie of their fellow soldiers. And…they’re dying in record numbers! The American citizens, who fostered that treatment, should be very ashamed.

Katalina FilmWorks has done and will continue to do for Vietnam Veterans whatever it takes to change that downward spiral. To date, KFW’s first documentary, “All Were Forgotten…And Then Came John!”, has premiered on both the East and West Coasts, and will soon be available for distribution.

Furthermore, a television series, “Warriors, One by One”, is in the works, along with a feature film, to be announced. “Warriors, One by One” will focus on one American soldier per episode. Each soldier will have a chance to tell his/her story and, through telling that story, might find some peace in sharing those memories. Along with another documentary is in development and the feature film is in the concept and screenplay phase.
